Good news for working families in Weipa: Centacare FNQ’s Catholic Early Learning and Care (CELC) is set to deliver a much-needed childcare service with an Outside School Hours Care (OHSC) opening at St Joseph’s Parish School for Vacation Care this December. With the addition of a new Weipa-based OHSC, Centacare FNQ’s CELC operates schoolaged care programs from 12 schools in the Far North between Gordonvale and Weipa. CELC is now seeking enrolment for up to 30 children attending St Joseph’s Parish School and primary school-aged children from Western Cape College. CELC provides safe, educational, and engaging environments for after-school and vacation care students. The CELC leadership team will visit Weipa and be available at St Joseph’s Parish School from Monday, 28 to Wednesday, 30 October, to meet with interested community members.

Dr. Joshua Pate, Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy at University of Technology Sydney and researcher in children’s pain, talking about the one in five Australian children facing chronic pain. Alarmingly, recently-released research shows on average, 20.8% of children are challenged by chronic pain at some point in their childhood – approximately five kids in each classroom. This National Children’s Week (19th – 27th October), Australian parents are encouraged to discuss pain with their children to better understand their perspectives on pain. To support these conversations, leading Australian children’s pain researcher Dr Joshua Pate has developed the Zoe and Zak’s Pain Hacks book series.
