National Talk Black 180424

On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Isaac Drandic, Queensland Theatre’s Associate Artistic Director (First Nations) and Director of “37”, talking about his involvement the on stage play “37”. Penned by twice-named Tasmanian Aboriginal Artist of the Year, Nathan Maynard, and directed by renowned Australian director and proud Noongar man, Isaac Drandic, the play is named after the immortalised number Adam Goodes wore on his AFL jersey and set within the era of his famous war-cry, 37 follows the fictional Cutting Cove Currawongs in their fight for premiership glory. The production has hit Brisbane audiences off the back of its world premiere at Melbourne’s Southbank Theatre, which has included an array of four- and five-star reviews. Tickets are available for performances at Queensland Theatre’s Bille Brown Theatre from 11 April to 4 May at the link below!

Dr. Sam Osborne and Professor Kathy Paige, Co-researcher and UniSA Associate Director of Regional Engagement and UniSA Adjunct Associate, talking about how silence is not an option for First Nations’ content in Australian schools. Authentic and sometimes confronting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander content is helping the next generation of Australian teachers be more socially responsible and inclusive, say University of South Australia experts. In a UniSA study, researchers found that pushing pre-service teachers outside their comfort zones helped educate them about the injustices faced by First Nations’ people – including racism, prejudice and discrimination – and to more confidently integrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander content into their lessons.

Chris Croker, Co-Chair of the First Nations Clean Energy Network, talking about how the “Future Made in Australia Act” must include First Nations. The First Nations Clean Energy Network welcomes Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s plans for a “Future Made in Australia Act” but cautions this must not be at the expense of, nor take for granted, First Nations consent. Australia’s energy transition – the bedrock of the vision in the Future Made in Australia Act and the economy based on clean energy and manufacturing – will only happen at the pace and scale required with First Nations as partners in the development and planning.
