National Talk Black 170724
On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:
Skye Thompson, Aboriginal Housing Northern Territory (AHNT) CEO, talking about the new housing agreement to empower Aboriginal people. Aboriginal housing sector leaders gathered in Milikapiti on the Tiwi Islands to sign a landmark 10-year partnership agreement. The partnership agreement signals a pivot toward restoring Aboriginal self-determination in the remote housing system and transitioning control of Aboriginal housing to Aboriginal people and organisations. Importantly, the agreement promises to explore the prospect of new housing on homelands after the initial 3-year program of urgent repairs and maintenance.
Karrina Nolan, co-Chair of the First Nations Clean Energy Network, talking about Ensuring a ready workforce for Australia’s clean energy transition. The transition to clean energy will require the creation of a skilled workforce to take up the new job and career opportunities. First Nations are critical partners in the clean energy transition, including in the establishment of the workforce required to service the sector. Karrina says this should be the final report for government and industry on enabling and achieving employment and training outcomes for First Nations people in the clean energy sector.
Mark Townend, CEO of Spinal Life Australia, talking about disability advocates call for the government to live up to NDIS pricing promises. The NDIA released its Annual Pricing Review (APR) for 2023/24, setting the maximum price limits for services provided to NDIS participants by health professionals and providers. With this decision only coming into affect days before the new financial year, disability service providers remained uncertain about the rates they could charge NDIS participants leading up to July 1. Due to these staggering numbers, registered disability service providers are now more crucial than ever. However, the delayed NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits release has caused substantial challenges for companies providing services to the 600,000 Australians enrolled in the NDIS.
