National Talk black 180724
On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:
Kerry Tranter, Founder and CEO of Indigishowcase, talking about Indigishowcase. IndigiShowcase is a groundbreaking platform dedicated to creating a vibrant community where Indigenous artists, performers, educators, and cultural practitioners can showcase their talents, expand their reach, and grow their businesses. A portion of every transaction is donated to Indigenous children’s initiatives such as the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and Children’s Ground, contributing to the education and well-being of future generations.
Karen Edwards, Clinical Director, Gidget Foundation Australia (GFA), talking about the tangible action needed to address findings from inquiry into birth trauma. After receiving more than 4,000 submissions, the inquiry found that multiple mothers suffered preventable birth trauma with these experiences both distressing and unacceptable. This Birth Trauma Awareness Week (15-21 July), GFA is calling for increased support for parents who have experienced birth trauma, after their submission to the NSW Legislative Council Select Committee on Birth Trauma raised multiple concerns that were acknowledged in the final report.
Kiah Morgan and Ryan Kucirek, Senior drone operator and Chief drone pilot, talking about Indigenous rangers from Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) are combining drones and Artificial Intelligence with ancient Knowledge to save a unique population of koalas from the wildfires that could wipe them out. By knowing koala locations, rangers can plan burns to minimise risk to the iconic marsupials. Precautions include watering down vegetation around koala-occupied trees and even having water bomber aircraft on standby for big operations.
