Wally Tallis, First Nations Media Australia (FNMA) CEO, talking about FNMA and this years Converge. First Nations Media Australia is the national peak body for First Nations not-for-profit broadcasting, media and communications. FNMA’s annual CONVERGE event celebrates, showcases and recognises the essential role of the First Nations media industry in amplifying the voices, stories, and cultural narratives of First Nations peoples across Australia and abroad. This year, Converge was held on Ngunnawal/Ngambri (Canberra) country and gave the First Nations media industry the opportunity to come together to learn, share and network. The Converge also shed light on First Nations Media Australia’s, “Our Media Matters” – Renewing Australian Government Policy for First Nations Broadcasting and Media through 9 Calls for Action. Helen Tait, Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji Peoples Prescribed Body Corporate (GMYPPBC) Aboriginal Corporation Executive Officer and Juliet Stewart, Mas National Queensland State Manager, talking about Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji Peoples Prescribed Body Corporate at national awards through support of Mas National. GMYPPBC is a charity and not-for-profit organisation based in Yarrabah, Australia’s largest discrete Aboriginal community. As a standalone corporation, they have been managing land on behalf of the Gunggandji and Mandingalbay Yidinji native title holders land since 2013. In the last seven years, they’ve grown from a single part-time employee to a committed team of 15. After winning both North Queensland’s and Queensland’s Small Employer of the Year Awards, they’re now headed to Canberra for the national awards. GMYPPBC’s impact on the local community is immense, particularly through their First Nation ranger program. Mas National’s collaboration with GMYPPBC since 2021 has seen remarkable success, placing trainees who have gained hands-on experience in diving, habitat restoration, and environmental evaluation and monitoring, all while contributing to their community’s wellbeing. Sharon Winsor, Executive Chef, Founder and CEO of @indigiearth, talking about sharing the healing power of native food through Indigiearth. Award-winning chef Sharon Winsor is on a mission to show the world that bush food is much more than just “witchetty grubs and goanna”. She realised many people did not know what bush foods were, and decided to start a business to showcase how native ingredients could be used. Indigiearth is an award-winning business fully owned and operated by Aboriginal people. It is based in the scenic Central West region of New South Wales, Mudgee, on Wiradjuri Country. Indigiearth works with native Australian ingredients gathered from across the nation, including coastal areas and inland across our vast country.
