National Talkblack 240723

We had:

Associate Professor Jeremy Brownlie from Griffith University, talking about the genetic diversity of K’gari dingoes. With K’gari dingoes in the spotlight after recent human-dingo incidents on the island, a Griffith geneticist has shed light on the relatively small population’s genetic diversity.

Cathy Brand, Brooks Australia CEO, talking about sleeping through danger: hard of hearing and elderly Australians at risk of fatal housefires. At least one Australian dies from residential fires each week, with people aged over 65 accounting for over a third (36%) of all fatalities. In fact, research reveals half (50%) of Australians are concerned that their relatives could not escape a housefire in time, with low mobility and being hard of hearing topping the list for the biggest barrier to getting out safely.
