National Talkblack 060921

We had:

Dr Katrina Lines, Child Psychologist and CEO at Act for Kids, talking about how children are left vulnerable as parents avoid teaching consent. Shocking new research reveals 69% of Australian adults don’t believe you should ask children permission before touching them. This comes as 36% of parents with children under the age of 18, don’t think their child understands what consent is. This Child Protection Week (5th – 11th September 2021), Act for Kids is urging parents to talk to their kids about consent from a young age and is advocating for education for parents and schools to help keep Australia’s future generations safe.

Chrissy Grant, talking about how she is now the Authrority’s first ever Indigenous Chair of the Board of Directors. Ms Chrissy Grant, who has more than 35 years experience working with national and international issues of Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, Indigenous Peoples, natural and cultural management and biological diversity, and will now become the Authority’s first ever Indigenous Chair of Board of Directors as of 24th of September 2021.

Matthew Cooke, QAIHC chair, talking about the Queensland vaccine campaign encouraging mob to ‘make the choice’. The Make the Choice campaign encourages First Nations people to yarn with their local Aboriginal Medical Service to understand the vaccine and what it means for their overall health and wellbeing. “There is a lot of information circulating and we know it can get confusing — we want to give our people the opportunity to talk about making the right choice for them,” Cooke said. “Make the Choice is about providing a central hub of information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Queensland to support these important conversations, both in community and with clinicians.”
