National Talk Black 230524
On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:
David Jagger, Program coordinator, talking about the Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa’s) alternative engagement program that’s keeping remote kids in school. The program is aiming to increase school attendance and reduce antisocial behaviour in the community about 85 kilometres south-east of Alice Springs. Run by the Atyenhenge Atherre Aboriginal Corporation – AAAC the program rewards students who go to and behave well at school, by letting them participate in learning activities outside of the classroom.
Rob Ramjan, Board Director of the Mental Illness Fellowship of Australia, talking about how millions of dollars are desperately needed to boost mental health care services and help people across Australia. A recent report found Australia’s current mental health system is fragmented, disjointed and utterly dysfunctional. MIFA says its latest campaign will highlight families need more support too because there are significant impacts on families and carers when people are not getting the help they need. The theme of this year’s MIFA campaign is “It’s Time To Do Better”.
Scott Chambers, Volunteer for SES, talking about charting a new course for volunteering: emerging opportunities in challenging times, in honour of National Volunteer Week (20-26 May). People are finding it difficult to prioritise volunteering, or afford the potential costs associated, such as transport or fuel. This National Volunteer Week (20th – 26th May) Volunteering Australia is encouraging all people who’ve thought about volunteering to take the leap and know there is ‘Something for Everyone’.
