Dr June Smith, The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) Deputy Chief Ombudsman, talking about the AFCA’s accessible, independent, fair and free external dispute resolution service for consumers and small businesses who have complaints about financial services. There has been a significant increase in the number of complaints made by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Australia’s financial dispute resolution scheme. AFCA received 2,523 complaints from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the 2022-23 financial year, a rise of 13 per cent on the previous year.

Donna Donzow, EON Foundations NT Operations Manager, talking about how the EON Foundations fruit and veggie gardens are boosting nutrition and budgets in remote NT communities. The EON Foundation builds edible gardens in remote Aboriginal schools and communities and uses them to teach health and nutrition with the aim of reducing preventable and chronic diseases. The foundation was established in 2005 in response to the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research’s investigation into Aboriginal Child Health in WA.
