The communications specialist has celebrated 30 years of publicising Far North Queensland’s movers, shakers, businesses and events since launching consultancy Pip Miller PR on 1 June 1994. Since then, she has worked on countless local events, most notably, the Cairns Festival, the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair — since 2013, and the Cairns Amateurs Carnival, since 2014. Congratulations, Pip and than you for all you do for the community!
PLO Stephen Grant and Senior Sergeant Glen De Lai, Edmonton Police Whichway Yarning, talking about Boiler Rooms. A boiler room can be described as an outgoing call centre, where telephone salespeople use high pressure, dishonest and unlawful sales tactics to induce unsuspecting victims to invest money, purchase stocks or purchase computer programs that they claim can accurately provide advice about stocks to purchase and sell. Shelley Ware, Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) Ambassador, author and educator, talking about ILF’s busking for change inviting schools to learn a song in an Indigenous language to boost literacy and development. This year’s Busking for Change song is is Shordi Krik, written in English and Kriol by the students at the Northern Territory’s Barunga Remote Community School and ILF Lifetime Ambassador, Justine Clarke. Last year, 84 schools participated in the musical fundraiser, with the ILF aiming to increase that number to 115 in 2024. Too deadly ILF, be sure to check out more below!
Troy Benjamin, Founder and Operator of Blak Brews, talking about Blak Brews major prize win and Gordon Ramsey mentorship with Food Stars success. With his wife Cerisa, Mr Benjamin creates and sells ethically-sourced premium tea using native ingredients, while also operating a coffee van. The business, Blak Brews was established in 2023. Mr Benjamin was chosen for Ramsay’s team and will now receive a 12-month mentorship with the celebrity chef. Congratulations, Troy and you can check out Blak Brews below!
