National Talk Black 100424

On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Todman Chatfield, Founder and Program Manager of My Voice My Journey – Leadership and Resilience , talking about the program and how it is inspiring First Nations youth to become leaders in their communities. ‘My Voice My Journey’, now in its third year, partners with communities and schools along the NSW South Coast to identify emerging First Nations leaders. Based on Yuin country in Eurobodalla, My Voice, My Journey is a testament to the strength and resilience of community and the dedication to the next generation.

PLO Stephen Grant and Officer Charlotte from Edmonton Police, talking about Sleepiness and Fatigue. Driving when becoming sleepy is a high risk behaviour which can affect anyone – no individual is immune to the effects from sleepiness, no matter how experienced a driver they might be. A driver who has been awake for 17 hours has a driving ability similar to that of a driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.05, and after 21 hours, similar to a BAC of 0.151,2. Sleepiness contributes to 20-30% of all deaths and severe injuries on the road, similar to speeding and drink driving.

Professor Robert Booy, Infectious Disease Expert has worked at the University of Sydney in the fields of vaccinology, epidemiology and infectious diseases, is talking about how at-risk Australians now have access to a cell-based flu vaccine on a National Immunisation Program. For the first time in Australia, a cell-based flu vaccine is available on the National Immunisation Program (NIP) to protect at-risk Australians from the flu. Flucelvax QUAD, developed by Australian company CSL Seqirus, is available for free via the NIP to Australians at higher risk of complications from the flu, including: Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples aged five to 64-years-old; pregnant women; and people aged five to 64-year-old with co-existing medical conditions.
