On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:
Brad Hore, Dual Olympian Boxer, talking about the Exercise Christmas Hop 2025. Exercise Christmas Hop 2025 will see Air Force and Army join forces, alongside Australian Olympians and other sporting greats, to deliver some festive cheer to regional and remote Indigenous communities in Far North Queensland. An Air Force C-27J Spartan and C-130J Hercules will deliver donated goods to communities in Mornington Island, Doomadgee, Normanton, Kowanyama, Cloncurry, Badu Island, Horn Island, Masig Island, Pormpuraaw, Aurukun, Longreach, Weipa and Burketown.
Charmaine Councillor, Wardandi Miya-k Kaadadjiny Aboriginal Corporation Founder & CEO and Author and Roslyn Khan, Author and Illustrator, talking about Bunbury Elders new children’s book celebrates Noongar language and Country. Kala is a beautiful new children’s book written and illustrated by eight members from Birdiya Waangkiny Elders Group in Bunbury, Western Australia. The authors and illustrators include Charmaine Councillor, Roslyn Khan, Gloria Dann, Phyllis Bennell, Teryle Collard, Sandra Nebro, Joanne Ugle and Marjorie Ugle. Published by The Indigenous Literacy Foundation this book celebrates Noongar language and Country. It was created during weekly language workshops where members gather to share knowledge, learn, heal and build language resources for future generations. Kala gives young readers the opportunity to learn the Noongar and English names for 11 colours, alongside the names of animals and plants. The book includes a pronunciation guide and a QR code that connects to audio readings by the Elders. This book also marks a significant milestone as the ILF’s first publication in Noongar, a First Language spoken across the south-west of Western Australia. You can find out more via the link below!

Che Cockatoo-Collins, NBN Australia Executive Manager, Indigenous Affairs. He is a proud Indigenous Australian with an innate passion for his people and community. A former professional AFL footballer, Che enjoyed a decorated career from 1994 where he debuted as a 19-year-old playing for Essendon and later switching to the Port Adelaide Football Club. With family connections to Ku Ku Yalanji, Yupangathi, Gangalidda and Gunggari peoples, Che is dedicated to ensuring Indigenous Affairs plays a leading role in the corporate space, and plays an instrumental role in driving digital participation and literacy for Indigenous Australians and communities.
