Leanne Brown, spokesperson for Apunipima and Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service for Cape York Kidney Care, talking about their 2024 Queensland Reconciliation Awards win, in the Health and Wellbeing category. Their health program, is the first of its kind in Australia to combine First Nations health practitioners with rural communities to provide kidney care for people with or at risk of developing chronic kidney disease. The awards recognise and celebrate inspiring initiatives and organisations that demonstrate an unwavering commitment to reconciliation during National Reconciliation Week.

Uncle Glen Miller, Founder of Butchulla Men’s Business Aboriginal Association for Butchulla Warriors’ Memorial – A Journey of Reconciliation, talking about their 2024 Queensland Reconciliation Awards win, in the Premier’s Reconciliation Award and Community category. An association behind the Fraser Coast’s ‘First Contact’ war memorial, dedicated to the Butchulla men who died defending Butchulla Country, that is pivotal in supporting young Butchulla men in the Fraser Coast community in their life journey and supporting their link to Country. Now in its 21st year, the awards have recognised more than 100 initiatives and partnerships that have championed reconciliation.
