Diane Anagnos, Deputy Director/Solicitor at Kingsford Legal Centre, talking about the Life-changing legal service for hospital patients celebrates 5-year milestone – but without ongoing funding. In 2019, Kingsford Legal Centre UNSW (KLC) collaborated with Prince of Wales Hospital and the Eastern Suburbs Mental Health Service to form a Health Justice Partnership, sending lawyers to hospital wards and patients’ bedsides to help relieve the stress and worry of legal problems. The partnership is celebrating 5 years of cost-effective service delivery – no small feat through a pandemic and without ongoing funding. Amy Sole, ILBIJERRI Theatre Company Creative Associate and Director of Emu in the Sun, talking about Blak in the Room 2024. Blak in the Room sees ILBIJERRI Theatre Company and Melbourne Theatre Company partner up to present three new works written by emerging playwrights Isobel Morphy-Walsh, Phoebe Grainer, and Maurial Spearim, developed through ILBIJERRI’s BlackWrights program. Amy is responsible for conceiving Blak in the Room – a celebration of Blak Theatre, sharing the next wave of First Peoples stories, running from 27 November to 7 December, 2024. Gunawarra Re-creation by Isobel Morphy-Walsh – This work looks at the continuation of creation and the stories of Blak women healing. A Wake – A Woke Mob by Maurial Spearim – This Blak Comedy will have you laughing even after you’re dead. And Emu in the Sun by Phoebe Grainer – A story about overcoming the darkness and reminding us of what we are really made of.
