Professor Lyndon Ormond-Parker, RMIT University First Nations co-investigator, talking about First Nations Australians twice as likely to be digitally excluded: report. First Nations Australians are twice as likely as other Australians to be digitally excluded and face barriers to accessing, affording and using the internet. For those living in remote Australia, the barriers are much greater. Three in four First Nations people living in remote and very remote communities are digitally excluded according to the Mapping the Digital Gap report by RMIT University and Swinburne University of Technology. This means many face significant barriers to accessing and using online services needed for daily social, economic and cultural life. You can find out more via the link below!

Thara Brown, 2026 Atlantic Fellow, talking about Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity – AFSE 2026 cohort. In a world facing deepening geopolitical and economic instability, climate, energy and food crises, we need Indigenous-led and values-based leadership more than ever. The Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity program, hosted by The University of Melbourne, stands as a vital platform for mobilising Indigenous knowledges, lived experiences, and collective wisdom to shape more equitable and resilient futures. 20 Fellows from across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Pacific (Fiji, French Polynesia, Papua New Guinea and Samoa) have been selected as the eighth cohort of Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE) since the Indigenous-led social equity program was established at the University of Melbourne in 2016. The new Fellows are working on a broad range of issues, from public policy and governance, anti-nuclear testing, criminal justice, climate, healthcare, journalism and education. The AFSE program supports the leadership journeys of 20 social change makers, who share their learnings with Indigenous communities and broader society across the Pacific. The 2026 cohort includes 10 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Fellows, 5 Māori Fellows, and 5 from the Pacific Islands. You can find out more via the link below!
