Yesterday I joined Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Craig Crawford MP and Director-General Dr Chris Sarra at #Yarrabah. We met with Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council Mayor Ross Andrews, CEO Leon Yeatman and councillors to discuss implementation of the community’s strategic plan. This was followed by a meeting of the Yarrabah Leadership Forum which includes representatives from a number of key local organisations including Mutkin Aged Care Facility, Gurriny Yealamucka Health Service Aboriginal Corporation, Gindaja Treatment & Healing Centre and Yarrabah State School. We discussed the strategy in greater detail, including their six pillars that are helping to direct the objectives and priorities of the Yarrabah council and community to inform their economic development strategy. #Yarrabah is ‘paradise by the sea’ - a vibrant community located in a beautiful part of FNQ and we are working together to build a prosperous future for the community with a particular focus on greater retail activity and tourism.
