For women, violence and abuse is the main cause of homelessness, with only 3.2% of women in crisis accommodation receiving the long-term housing solutions they need. In addition, one in six women (compared to 1 in 16 men) have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or former partner (AIHW 2018).
