National Talkblack 250619

On todays National Talkblack via NIRS – NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we had:

Aaron Smith from Torres News- Yarning about the Torres Strait Islander copyright of the flag and where it currently stands with ownership. Talking about the Aboriginal flag and the current issue its facing. Should the government own it, should the artist own it or the Aboriginal people. Its such an iconic symbol that to create a new flag would be an interesting journey.

Jessie Lloyd who has been working on the ‘Mission Song’ project and documenting the songs people were singing from the last century and keeping that culture alive. Also working with local artists helping them develop their song writing and copyright throughout their music project.

Aaron Fa’Aoso – Blue Water Empire is a 3-part dramatised-documentary series, giving a unique insight into the history of the Torres Strait Islands. Traversing the pre-colonial era through to contemporary times, this compelling history is centred on the key stories told by the men and women of the region, brought to life by dramatic re-enactments from an all-star cast. Screening from Tuesday, 25 June at 8.30pm on ABC + ABC iview.”
