National Talkblack 241019

On todays National Talkblack via NIRS – NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we had:

Sherele Moody Founder from The RED HEART Campaign which is dedicated to ending ALL violence and abuse against women and children! The murder & manslaughter toll for 2019 is now at 205 deaths. It is not far off 2018’s toll of 245 deaths. Violent deaths are not decreasing.

Kazan Brown – A few months ago we spoke to a traditional owner who expressed their concerns on the cultural heritage process of a plan to raise the wall of Warragamba dam and flood world heritage-listed areas of the Blue Mountains. The Traditional owners were not given enough time to properly assess these sites. Since than two independent reviews have been done and Kazan gave us an update.

Nadine Miles – ALS Principle Legal Officer – The New South Wales Government has extended its Custody Notification Service to ensure police call the hotline if they’ve taken an Indigenous person into protective custody for being intoxicated.

The Custody Notification Service (CNS) is an initiative run by the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited (ALS) to provide 24-hour legal advice for Indigenous people taken into police custody.
