Last Friday was an important day for Torres Strait Islander people as the Meriba Omasker Kaziw Kazipa (Torres Strait Islander Child Rearing Practice) Bill 2020 was introduced into Queensland Parliament. The Bill legally recognises Torres Strait Islander cultural adoption and provides adoptive parents the same legal rights as other parents.
