National Talkblack 141019
On todays National Talkblack via NIRS – NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we had:
Wuchopperen Health Service Ltd the Deadly Choices team coming in today to talk about the programs they have running in schools across Cairns 😃
April Roberts-Witteveen – Australian Institute of Health and Welfare – Spokesperson. A new report from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), Acute Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease in Australia, shows that rates of acute rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease among Indigenous Australians are high. These diseases are rare in non-Indigenous Australians and other developed countries.
Bianca Jackson – This week is National Carers Week. Almost 5 years ago, our next guest, Bianca Jackson, went from mum, to mum-and-carer, after her daughter was admitted to hospital when she became quite ill. Her eventual diagnosis of cerebral palsy changed Bianca’s life forever. Today in Australia, there are around 2.8 million carers – that’s 1 in every 8 of us.
