Thomas McIntyre, Act for Kids Executive Director Service Strategy and Growth, talking about Cairns Act for Kids and their services for May Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month. The Cairns Regional Domestic Violence Service is proud to present the Annual Breakfast for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month 2024! Celebrating 20+ years of this vital community event, they continue their tradition of gathering dedicated professionals and supporters to recognise their unwavering commitment to ending domestic and family violence (DFV) in our communities.
Lucy Krager, Wet Tropics Management Authority’s Yellow Crazy Ant Eradication Program (YCAEP) Manager, talking about the Yellow Crazy Ant Eradication Program. YCAEP looks for and treats yellow crazy ant infestations with the aim to eradicate yellow crazy ants from the region. The Wet Tropics Management Authority (the Authority) fulfils Australia’s international obligation under the World Heritage Convention to protect, conserve, present and rehabilitate the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area (the Area) and to ensure its survival for future generations.
Abe Ropitini, Executive Director of Population Health VACCHO, talking about World No Tobacco Day (31 May). According to Quit Victoria, smoking rates among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people still remain over three times the national average of non-indigenous people. The good news is that smoking rates are declining faster in Aboriginal Communities that general Australian population. VACCHO is the peak representative for Community controlled health and wellbeing sector of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Victoria.
Dennis Stokes, CIAF newly appointed CEO, talking about being appointed as the Cairns Indigenous Arts Fair (CIAF) new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This month, Mr Stokes joined the organisation to head up the small but hard-working team from its City Place HQ. Mr Stokes’ appointment coincides with the launch of ticket sales for
this year’s 15th-anniversary program, which runs from Thursday, 25 to Sunday, 28 July.
