NATIONAL TALK BLACK – 31/01/2025

On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Bec Blurton, Managing Director at First Nations Affairs, talking about How supporting Indigenous economies can help solve climate change. First Nations communities play a vital role in driving sustainable solutions through traditional knowledge and economic self-determination. Australia is grappling with the reality of climate change, with 2024 proving to be the hottest year on record and calls on the government for stronger climate protection laws. Amidst this growing crisis, Indigenous leaders like Rebecca Blurton, Managing Director at First Nations Affairs, are calling for urgent action, with a focus on empowering Indigenous businesses and communities to play a central role in driving climate solutions. She highlights that supporting the Indigenous economy is about much more than just creating businesses for Indigenous people. Instead, it’s about recognising the complex, multifaceted benefits of economic self-determination, including the ability for communities to manage land and businesses in ways that respect traditional knowledge. But when Jacky’s unemployable little brother Keith rolls into town, Jacky’s various lives in the white world threaten to come undone. Praised for its wit, insight, and raw honesty, JACKY is a sharp and deeply moving play about identity and belonging. Don’t miss out! JACKY must close this Sunday (2 Feb).
