Edmonton Police, Whichway Yarning Session, talking about the 2024 Queensland Road Safety Week. Queensland Road Safety Week runs from 26th to 30th August 2024 across Queensland. Queensland Road Safety Week provides an opportunity to raise this critical public health issue and encourage the community to do what they can to keep themselves and others safe on our roads. Police are focusing on young drivers, impaired drivers and motorcyclists this week, as Queensland Road Safety Week launches today. The initiative, running from 26-30 August, will see police working towards driving down the number of lives impacted by crashes on our roads. Human error and decisions are often the main causes of tragic road incidents. The Fatal 5, detailed in the Road Safety topics section contribute most highly as individually dangerous behaviours.
Here’s six simple things you can do to keep safe on regional roads:
1. Slow down and drive to the conditions
2. Don’t drive tired- even if you know the road like the back of your hand
3. Share the road
4. Buckle up every trip. Make sure your passengers do too.
5. Plan your way home. Drinking and driving don’t mix. Call a lift or make sure
you’ve got somewhere to stay the night.
6. Look at the road, not your phone.
Fatal 5
Speed – The faster you drive or ride, the greater your risk of a crash
Fatigue – Everyone can be affected by fatigue
Seatbelts – A simple action that could save your life
Distraction – Even the smallest distraction at the wrong time can be deadly
Drink and drug driving – alcohol and drug driving can affect driving performance.
