NATIONAL TALK BLACK – 28/08/2025
On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:
Alan Blackshaw, Gambling Help Queensland Community Educator, talking about Gambling Help. Gambling Help is funded by the Queensland Government to provide free services to members of the community who may be impacted by gambling harm. The harm from gambling extends to not just the person gambling but to those closest to them, family, friends, work colleagues and the community. It can impact the person emotionally, psychologically, financially and physically. It can disrupt their cultural connections and cause great harm to the relationships they value most. Importantly, those most at risk are young people, particularly young men and those who have a low level of school completion. Regrettably, research shows that First Nations people in Australia are at a higher risk of being impacted by gambling harm than other members of the community. We offer Community Education and can tailor training to the needs of the organisation or group seeking assistance. They provide counselling. This can be sourced face to face, over the phone or online via video conferencing. Are you experiencing gambling related distress? They offer free support. You can find out more via the link below!
