Aaron Pederson, Stage and Screen Actor, talking about the Cast and creatives behind brand-new theatre work, celebrating First Nations fatherhood. Queensland Theatre’s Dear Son – based on award-winning author Thomas Mayo’s book that is complemented by the contributions of 12 high-profile First Nations men, who penned reflective and heartfelt letters to their sons, fathers or nephews – is making its world premiere next month. Author, editor and proud Kaurareg, Kalkalgal, Erubamle Torres Strait Islander man Thomas Mayo invited 12 Indigenous men to write a letter, in a gentle and honest compendium of love and reflection, which accumulated to his book Dear Son. The celebration of First Nations manhood featured letters from Stan Grant, Troy Cassar-Daley, Johnny Liddle, Charlie King, Joe Williams, Yessie Mosby, Joel Bayliss, Daniel James, Jack Latimore, Daniel Morrison, Tim Sculthorpe and Blak Douglas. Now, renowned First Nations theatre makers Isaac Drandic and John Harvey are bringing the work to the Australian stage, adapting these deeply personal letters into a powerful world premiere. Tehya Makani, a proud Yawuru, Wadjarri, Pitjanjarra and Wadjuk (Noongar) actress and singer-songwriter, talking about First Nations talent stars in NITV series Warm Props. Award-winning Nyul Nyul/Yawuru director Jub Clerc’s series Warm Props premieres this Thursday 26 June at 8:30pm on NITV and SBS On Demand. Part of this year’s Digital Originals, Warm Props takes audiences behind the scenes with Charlie (Tehya Makani – in her first television role), who returns to a chaotic film shoot in her hometown in Western Australia and must then face her past as her narcissistic boss threatens the stability of her career and personal life. The heartening series is brought to life by acclaimed creator and writer Jub Clerc, co-writer Kimberly Benjamin, directed by Clerc and Benjamin, and produced by Jodie Bell for Ramu Productions. Shelley Ware, Teacher, Author and Media Presenter, talking about SBS & NITV – NAIDOC Week programming – SBS LEARN authored by Shelley Ware. NITV has just released its NAIDOC Week programming to air from Sunday 6 – Sunday 13 July. Both SBS and NAIDOC Week are celebrating 50 years, so NITV and SBS have unveiled an extensive line-up to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with curated content for NAIDOC Week 2025 premiering across SBS and NITV – full details in media release attached. SBS Learn is offering informative and engaging resources to help the next generation to learn about the strength, vision and legacy of First Nations Peoples this NAIDOC Week. This is actually the seventh National NAIDOC Week curriculum-aligned education resource developed by Shelley for SBS Learn. It features a culturally informed online teaching guide with activities, discussion prompts and videos to enable teachers to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into primary and secondary classrooms all year-round. Shelley is a teacher, author and media presenter with over two decades of classroom experience and has spent her career advocating for truth telling, self-determination and reconciliation through her work. A major focus of Shelley’s work is guiding schools to help them embed First Nations perspectives and cultures into their everyday practices, in a respectful and culturally safe way. She has been an Indigenous Literacy Ambassador for the past 10 years, advocating for better literacy outcomes for First Nations people. She has also been involved in media for over two decades appearing on live televisions shows not just on NITV, but also Ch 7 and AFL.com – she is well known for her time on Marngrook Football show.
