NATIONAL TALK BLACK – 25/02/2025

On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Leon Filewood, Comedian, talking about his stand up comedy performance “Whichway?”. After a sold out show in Cairns, Leon takes his stand up to the Adelaide Fringe Festival. In an era where politicians profit from fearmongering and dividing communities, this timely and hilarious performance cuts through the noise with warmth and sharp-witted storytelling that weaves personal experiences with national headlines. Discover how shared laughter can bridge our deepest divides. From the grassroots of a little remote community to the heart of urban Australia, this disarmingly funny and warm journey, gives an insight that challenges what media headlines tell us about identity and belonging. About what it means to be Australian. As the Federal election rhetoric heats up and political leaders leverage anxiety for votes, this comedy show reminds us that sometimes the best response to fear, is a good laugh. Jimmy Kyle, Chasing Ghosts Lead Singer and Chief Songwriter, talking about the Naarm Aboriginal led indie punk band “Chasing Ghosts” announced their new album Therapy on Wednesday Feb 19. Chasing Ghosts have always been a band whose music has championed urgency in its messaging: unbridled passion and fury, meeting honest storytelling and observations delivered by frontman and songwriter, Jimmy Kyle, the Thungutti man who has emerged as one of Australia’s most important voices in recent years. First single to drop is My Bingayi, which showcases a more melodic and emotive side of Chasing Ghosts. ‘My Bingayi’ is a song inspired by confronting conversations with other men about their domestically violent pasts, is one of Therapy’s touchstone moments. Perfectly balancing nuance with sensitivity, the song is about accountability, but encouraging behavioural change through finding helpful strategies that can ultimately break the chains of trauma. The band will be on the road supporting Clay J Gladstone in March and their Therapy album tour in June 2025, will be announced with the next single mid-march.
