Shannon Mead, No More Butts Founder and Executive Director, talking about National Volunteer Week (19–25 May 2025) and Answering disconnection with action – why now is the time to volunteer. Despite spending over six hours a day online, Australians are more disconnected than ever. In fact, one in three Australians (32%) experience moderate loneliness, and over one in six (17.5%) face severe isolation. However, volunteering remains a powerful way to combat loneliness and connect communities. Shannon Mead is a passionate and dedicated volunteer whose impact spans the arts, sports, and environmental advocacy. After more than a decade in community theatre, Shannon moved to Queensland in 2020 and founded the environmental charity No More Butts. As volunteer Executive Director, he leads a team of 12 and contributes over 1,500 hours annually to tackling cigarette and vaping litter across Australia. You can find out more via the link below!
