Joshua Creamer and Vonda Malone, Ceremonial Hearing of the Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry Chairperson and Member, talking about the Ceremonial Hearing of the Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry that happened on Monday 16 September and its first public hearings from 18 to 20 September 2024. The Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry is an independent inquiry with five members, Chairperson Joshua Creamer and Members the Honourable Roslyn Atkinson AO, Cheryl Buchanan, Ivan Ingram, and Vonda Malone. The Inquiry commenced on 1 July 2024 with the aim to listen, share and collect evidence on a scale like never before, gaining a more accurate picture of how colonisation has impacted our Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through the Inquiry, Queenslanders can better understand the contributions and the unique needs and challenges of First Nations peoples, and the shared benefits of acknowledging and embracing these. Alice Doyle, Charles Darwin Universities (CDU) Associate Vice-Chancellor East Arnhem Region, talking about CDU opening a permanent campus to deliver tertiary education in East Arnhem Region. In a special ceremony in Nhulunbuy Northeast Arnhem Land Charles Darwin University (CDU) received the official title and meaning of the newest regional campus Mathaman | CDU Nhulunbuy Campus. The building was officially opened in partnership with the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation (RAC) Board who represent the Rirratjingu people whose land on which the Mathaman CDU Nhulunbuy Campus is on and was blessed by Rirratingu Traditional Owners. “Mathaman means to speak with lightning.” RAC Chairman and Rirratjingu Traditional Owner Wanyubi Marika said. Since CDUs presence TAFE training student numbers have doubled.
