The Bogong’s Song blends storytelling, shadow puppetry, dance and song to tell the story of the Bogong moth, inviting young audiences to experience connection to Country, and to listen, reflect, and wonder. Dr. Kaele Stokes, Dementia Australia Advocacy, Policy and Research Executive Director, talking about Dementia now leading cause of death for Australians and Dementia Actin Week starts today – “Nobody can do it alone”. Dementia is now the leading cause of death for Australians, according to the latest update of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare’s (AIHW) Dementia in Australia report. The update to the Dementia in Australia report also revealed that 43 per cent of the dementia burden in Australia can be attributed to six modifiable risk factors: being overweight or obese, physical inactivity, high blood sugar, high blood pressure in midlife, smoking and impaired kidney function. Dementia Action Week 2025 is from Monday 15 September to Sunday 21 September, which includes World Alzheimer’s Day on Sunday 21 September. This year’s theme is ‘Nobody can do it alone’. Dementia doesn’t just impact the person living with the condition and their immediate carers; it also impacts their family, friends and wider social network. People living with dementia tell us that friends and family often drop away, not knowing how to interact with them once they have a diagnosis – leading to social isolation and loneliness. This Dementia Action Week, Dementia Australia is challenging everyone in the community to reach out and reconnect to someone impacted by dementia. Head to dementia.org.au/DementiaActionWeek for practical information, toolkits and resources.
