Lisa Michl Ko-manggén OAM, QLD finalist in the prestigious Telstra NATSIAA awards, talking about her Telstra Work on Paper Award. Now in its 42nd year, the Telstra NATSIAA will open at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) in Darwin on 21 June 2025, with winners announced at a ceremony on 8 August. Telstra NATSIAA is Australia’s longest-running Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art award. It celebrates culture, artistic practice, and connection to Country, presented by MAGNT and Principal Partner Telstra on Larrakia Country. Among Queensland’s 2025 finalists, two celebrated artists—Lisa Michl Ko-manggén OAM and Alick Tipoti—have works featured in Cairns Indigenous Art Fair 2025 prestigious Art Fair Showcase exhibition at the Tanks Arts Centre in Gimuy/Cairns this July. Curated in response to this year’s theme, Pay Attention!, the showcase will be a collective Queensland First Nations reflection on truth, justice, identity, and resistance. Angela Sheedy, Charles Darwin University (CDU) Course Coordinator Health Science, talking about CDU enters first-of-its-kind partnership to boost health literacy in Territory schools. A groundbreaking new initiative aimed at boosting health awareness and outcomes across the Northern Territory’s (NT) secondary schools has launched for the first time at Dripstone Middle School in Darwin. Led by staff and students from Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) Faculty of Health, the CDU Dripstone Health Academy is the first-of-its-kind in the NT and will provide valuable practical experience in tertiary studies as well as promote improved health awareness and health outcomes for students aged 14-years and above. Arian Pearson, East Journey, talking about the 2025 Barunga Festival. This vibrant celebration of Indigenous culture, music, and sport will take place in the heart of the Barunga community, welcoming visitors from across the Northern Territory and beyond. Situated 400kms from Darwin and 80kms Southeast from Katherine, NT the festival promises a rich program featuring traditional dance, didgeridoo playing, bush medicine workshops, weaving, Dreamtime storytelling, and a variety of sports competitions. Attendees will also enjoy contemporary music performances, showcasing both local Indigenous artists and nationally acclaimed musicians. East Journey from N.E. Arnhem Land are the descendants of Yothu Yindi. They deliver an exciting fusion of guitar driven rock and acoustic mixed with the earthy tribal sounds of the yidaki and biḻma. Formed in 2010 the band played and gained attention nationally. This is the first time in almost a decade the band are coming back together for a major festival appearance!
