On Thursday 16 October, SXSW Sydney’s public program, SXSW Sydney Unlocked, shines a spotlight on First Nations creativity. Blak to the Future: A Celebration of First Nations Creatives is a special event co-curated by Awesome Black and Winda Film Festival, hosted by Bianca Hunt and Travis De Vries. This year’s lineup highlights artists on the cusp of breaking through, each pushing the needle with raw energy and passion including Kootsie Don, Nate G, Selve, Lemonise, Akala Newman, Mr Rhodes and DJ DK. Lateesha Johnstone, Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service, talking about QIFVLS Strong Families Day Out. A NO2DV Community Event against domestic violence, this Friday 17th October, at Harold Falge Park, 2:30PM-5:30PM.

Karrina Nolan, First Nations Clean Energy Network Chair, talking about Setting the stage for our next clean energy leaders: PowerMakers. 26 First Nations people have been selected from over 100 applicants to participate in PowerMakers, a transformative capacity building program for First Nations people pursuing clean energy solutions in homes, communities, and on Country. Designed and delivered by the First Nations Clean Energy Network with assistance from trusted experts in government, academia and industry, and our clean energy kin in Canada, this year’s annual PowerMakers program is being held in Mparntwe (Alice Springs), Northern Territory from 13-16 October 2025.
