NATIONAL TALK BLACK – 14/10/2024
On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:
Dr. Amber Marshall, Lecturer in Management at Griffith University, talking about the calls for a National Digital Inclusion Strategy to address digital poverty in Australia. With digital learning an expected and crucial element of modern-day schooling, access to reliable devices and online resources are essential for an equal education experience. However, with one in four Australians digitally excluded, digital poverty exists among low-socioeconomic populations in Australia, fuelling the cycle of wider and generational poverty. In an effort to prevent technology access from deepening existing disadvantages in education and therefore the future prospects of young people, since it’s inception, not-for-profit WorkVentures has supported over 100,000 Australians with access to refurbished devices and technical support. This Anti-Poverty Week (13-19 October 2024), the not-for-profit is calling upon the federal government to address digital poverty through the creation of a National Digital Inclusion Strategy, ensuring all governments, businesses and non -profits can work towards a uniform set of goals. WorkVentures is also encouraging both companies and governments to increase donations of their own used devices to support people facing digital poverty. To learn more about how WorkVentures is increasing technology access for people, regardless of their financial means, head to the link below!
