Selena O’Meara and Janine Dureau, Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Council Chairperson and CEO, talking about the Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Council launching a strategic plan at Federal Parliament. The Kimberley Aboriginal Women’s Council (KAWC) will today launch its 2025-2027 Strategic Plan at Federal Parliament House in Canberra, ensuring that Aboriginal women’s leadership, rights, and self-determination are firmly on the national agenda ahead of the upcoming elections. The plan outlines KAWC’s commitment to women’s leadership, grassroots empowerment, cultural security, and systems reform, with a strong focus on strengthening the Aboriginal community-controlled sector, fostering self-determination and advancing Closing the Gap priorities. It also highlights key initiatives, including the Women’s Leadership Program, Rise & Shine Mentoring Program for Kimberley Aboriginal girls, and the Organisational Strategic Development Program, all designed to create long-term social, cultural, and economic benefits for Aboriginal women and their communities. The launch event will bring together policymakers, community leaders, and key stakeholders to discuss how government and industry can support Aboriginal women’s leadership and self-determination.

Anita Veivers, Centacare FNQ Executive Director, talking about Centacare FNQ’s call for pantry staples while sharing pantry-smart recipes amid flooding crisis. In a quick response to this week’s flooding, which has disrupted roads and supply chains across the far north, Centacare FNQ, through the Manoora Neighbourhood Centre, is calling for donations of bread, meat and pantry staples while sharing simple, pantry-smart recipes to help families make the most of what they have. To ease the burden on families and make the most of pantry staples, Centacare FNQ has created a collection of easy, delicious recipes such as Chickpea Curry, Coconut Rice Pudding, Rice and Tuna Patties, Flatbread, and Satay Noodles. Centacare FNQ calls for donations of bread, meat and pantry staples that can be delivered to the Manoora Neighbourhood Centre, 66 Pease Street, Manoora. Professor Clare Scott AM, Australian New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) Chair, talking about Australia’s Deadliest Women’s Cancer: Why Women Need Urgent Action Now. Ovarian cancer is now confirmed as the deadliest women’s cancer, with the latest statistics revealing a five-year survival rate of just 49%. Tragically, two-thirds (67%) of cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, where survival drops to just 29%. This February, during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) is calling for urgent action to improve outcomes for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer. ANZGOG leads clinical trials that deliver cutting-edge therapies to women with ovarian cancer and other gynaecological cancers. During Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, ANZGOG encourages Australians to get involved by learning more, supporting research, and advocating for equitable access to the latest advancements in gynaecological cancer care.
