NATIONAL TALK BLACK – 07/10/2025
On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:
Selina Maguire-Colgrave, Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation Chairperson, talking about Tarkiner turns kelp into culture and commerce. A new Aboriginal business is making waves in Tasmania’s far North West by utilising a natural product which has washed ashore for millennia. Tarkiner is a proudly First Nations owned indoor plant food product made from organic bull kelp harvested on the traditional lands of the Peerapper people. The Aboriginal business enterprise was founded by the Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation (CHAC) last year. Tarkiner harnesses the power of kelp as an organic fertiliser, however the product also has deep cultural roots in North West Tasmania. Tarkiner is now available from Bunnings Warehouse. Justin Welsh, Moorambilla Voices former chorister and guest Indigenous language consultant, talking about Moorambilla Voices bush choir marks 20 years. Founded in 2005, Moorambilla Voices runs camps at Baradine, about six hours west of Sydney, where students rehearse and prepare for a series of gala concerts. Now married and a father of two, Mr Welsh has returned to the program as a guest Indigenous language consultant, invited back by his longtime mentor and Moorambilla’s artistic director, Michelle Leonard. The choir celebrated its 20th anniversary with sold-out concerts in Dubbo. You can find out more via the link below!
