National Talk Black 050424

On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Dr Karam Kostner, Associate Professor of Medicine at the The University of Queensland and Director of Cardiology at Mater Hospital, talking about how first-in-class treatment is now listed on PBS to lower and maintain cholesterol. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents a significant public health burden, with a quarter of all deaths in Australia attributable to ASCVD as an underlying cause, and one in three Australian adults living with high cholesterol levels. Now listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), Novartis’ new treatment, Leqvio®, is the first and only small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapy to lower LDL-C. This first-in-class treatment option has the potential to transform patient care and help improve the lives of individuals living with ASCVD.
