On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Nathanael Edwards/Jigirr Jigirr, Dyirribarra and Dulgabara man from the MaMu Nation, Radiant Life College Principal and Independent Artist, talking about Radiant Life College and his upcoming Art Exhibition at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair. Radiant Life College is a non-denominational, independent Christian school located in Innisfail North Queensland, they welcome students from all cultures and have a passion for supporting First Nations students and fostering a connection with culture and country. Through their dynamic and well-rounded curriculum, they cater to the academic, physical, social, and spiritual growth of each child, recognising and nurturing their unique strengths and talents. They aim to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning in every student. The Cairns Institute at James Cook University (JCU) is proud to announce its collaboration with Goondoi Arts First Nations artist Nathanael Edwards for a special inaugural art exhibition, Guwal Yabala, opening on Friday, 5 July. The event will celebrate Indigenous culture and heritage through the showcase of original artworks. Guwal Yabala means “Voice of Country” and the exhibition will feature a series of impressionist and abstract paintings by Nathanael Edwards, offering a unique platform to share his cultural stories. Attendees will have the chance to engage with First Nations perspectives, deepen their understanding of Indigenous culture, and appreciate the beauty and depth of Indigenous artistry.

Brooke Wandin, Artist, Language Specialist and Researcher, talking about wurrung dhumbunganjinu (we speak language) at Federation Square in Melbourne. wurrung dhumbunganjinu we speak language is a new sound and video work by Brooke Wandin (Wurundjeri) which was launched Thursday 3 April at Melbourne’s Federation Square. wurrung dhumbunganjinu is a family recording of woiwurrung sharing. This sound work rejuvenates ancient oral tradition and removes any comparison to English. Brooke Wandin is a Wurundjeri artist, language specialist and researcher. She is based in Healesville, where she teaches woiwurrung language to the students at Healesville Primary School. She holds weekly language classes with members of her family at Coranderrk in order to revitalise language. This new work has been made in collaboration with her family, written together and recorded during their language sessions at Coranderrk.
