NATIONAL TALK BLACK – 03/03/2025

On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Annick Thomassin and Jacinta Baragud, ANU Japan Zenadth Kes Project Chief Investigators, talking about the Japan-Zenadth Kes (JZK) Project – Reconnecting research and community 50 years on. The Japan-Zenadth Kes Project (JZK) is about reconnecting Zenadth Kes communities with a unique body of research scholarship created by a team of Japanese researchers about Zenadth Kes societies and environment 50 years ago. The project responds to the call for the return of research through robust partnerships with traditional owners to return research. The project team see research as being alive as long as it is connected with community and anchored in respectful relationships between different peoples, knowledges, places and histories. As part of this project, we will translate, reinterpret and reuse the Japanese research with Zenadth Kes communities to create multiple accessible outputs – an online book, digital storytelling, exhibitions and community events. Unless stated otherwise, all photos are by Professor George Ohshima and used in this site with the permission of MINPAKU. The JZK Project is a collaboration with Gur A Baradharaw Kod (GBK) in the Zenadth Kes and the National Museum of Ethnology (MINPAKU), Osaka, Japan. They aim to promote both a greater awareness of the Japanese research in Australia and knowledge among Japanese audiences of the unique cultures of Zenadth Kes. If you live in Cairns and remember any of the Japanese researchers or life in Zenadth Kes in the 70s , they would love to hear from you. Please contact Annick Thomassin or Jacinta Baragud on Japan-Zenadhkes@anu.edu.au .
