CIAF Hour 170820
1pm to 2pm is The Cairns Indigenous Art Fair – CIAF Hour via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service with Carli Willis and Jack Wilke-Jans.
Today you’ll hear yarns with two CIAF artists, Andy Duffin and Clinton Naina.
Andy Duffin was born in Cairns and raised in and around the Kuranda region. He identifies as a Djabugay person and proudly carries on the traditional style of his ancestors. Andy aspires to become a master weaver of the bi-cornual basket much like, Girramay traditional owner and master weaver Abe Muriata who is credited with teaching Andy the traditional and timeless techniques.
As an abstract painter, Clinton Naina uses domestic materials as his medium, such as heritage coloured house paint, bitumen paint and domestic household bleach (white king). He also uses reference from the dominant culture and its symbols that symbolise language, religion, land, country, targeted, crown and colonisation of the dispossessed.
