NATIONAL TALK BLACK – 01/08/2025

On todays National Talk Black via NIRS – National Indigenous Radio Service we have:

Liz, Service Centre Manager, talking about the Western Cape Community inspiring new service centre. Services Australia’s Western Cape Service Centre, based in Weipa, has reopened this week following a community co-designed makeover reflecting the unique culture of First Nations Australians of the beautiful Cape York Peninsula. The service centre is the hub for the surrounding communities of Aurukun, Napranum and Mapoon. The Western Cape Service Centre is the fourth bespoke redesign in remote communities across Australia with four more planned for completion in 2025. Over several months, the Services Australia project team met with Elders, Traditional Owners, staff and customers in community and onsite to listen and understand cultural factors that could be supported during the redesign. Customers were also invited to provide feedback on design concepts throughout the development phase.

John Paul Janke, MC and Host, Professor Richard Franklin, Keynote Speaker, talking about their involvement with the 2025 First Nations Media Australia Converge. First Nations Media Australia is the national peak body supporting First Nations media organisations, networks and workers across Australia. The annual CONVERGE conference brings media personnel from across the country together to share, learn and network. It allows first nations media a platform to steer policy direction, skills development, and self-determination of its representation. The program for 2025 was similar to last year, where they held the second of three First Nations Digital Inclusion Forum on day one, followed by two days of the First Nations media industry learning, sharing and networking, then a night of celebration for the annual FNMA Awards 2025.
